Here’s a recent discovery I’d like to share: you can actually run Greasemonkey scripts in Safari. The solution is simple: install GreaseKit. You can find some good instructions on installing GreaseKit here.
Once installed, you can use any of my Greasemonkey scripts in Safari on a mac just like in Firefox. I’ll update the pages for each of my scripts to include this information as well as instructions for installing the scripts in the next few days. Installation should be easy enough though. In fact, you should just be able to click the download link for each file and you’ll see an installer prompt. This should also work in Firefox and is a much quicker way to install scripts — another recent discovery of mine, ahem.

I’m am a current user of Apple’s dot Mac service and have been for a few years. I use the webmail application pretty regularly, but the one thing that has always bothered me about the interface is the huge global navigation banner that takes up a good inch of the top part of the page. The thing is, when I’m in there I don’t really care about navigating to, say, the iTunes page.
Using Mark Pilgim’s handy Greasemonkey reference I whipped up a Greasemonkey script for Firefox that hides the global nav, but only for the *.mac.com domain.
So, without further ado, I present Dot Mac.
Update: Since the switch from .mac to MobileMe, this script no longer works and, thanks to the improved UI of MobileMe, is no longer necessary.
Dot Mac is a Greasemonkey script for the Firefox web browser. This script enhances the dot Mac web interface by removing the common Apple header navigation to provide more room when reading email etc.
To install you first need to make sure you Greasemonkey installed and enabled. With that out of the way, do the following:
- Download the dot Mac user script below
- Start the Firefox browser if it isn’t already running
- Make sure Greasemonkey is enabled (the little monkey in the status bar should be smiling :)
- Now, drag and drop the script to the Firefox window. You should now see a Greasemonkey Installation dialogue.
- Click Install
And that’s it, the Dot Mac script is installed! Enjoy!
